Over the past decade, Asian scholarly journals have experienced significant growth, particularly in China, Korea, and India. By 2022, each of these countries had approximately 350 journals listed in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR), matching or surpassing Japan’s count. Notably, since 2019, China has exceeded Japan in the number of JCR-listed journals and boasts the highest average journal impact factor among Asian nations. This expansion is attributed to rapid advancements in science and technology and proactive national policies promoting scholarly publications. Organizations like the Korean Council of Science Editors (KCSE) have been instrumental in this progress, offering regular seminars and training to enhance journal quality and international presence. Despite these advancements, there remains room for improvement in the quality and impact of Asian journals. Editors are encouraged to focus on increasing their journals’ impact factors, with collaboration through the Council of Asian Science Editors (CASE) playing a pivotal role in future developments.
