On October 29th, the second CASE Webinar was held online with the theme of “Utilizing AI Tools in Journal Publishing.” The webinar was chaired by Dr. Zuriati Zakaria, President of CASE, and featured three presentations and a Q&A. Over 60 attendees participated.
The first presentation was given by Dr. Tae-Sul Seo, Secretary-General of CASE, under the theme “Journal Publishing and AI.” He first raised issues in AI use in journal publishing, as identified in some studies. In his presentation, he also provided an overview of using AI Tools in journal publishing and concluded by emphasizing the need for journal policies on AI.
The second presentation was given by Varun Singh, Delivery Manager of ictect, under the theme “JATS XML Production Using AI.” He introduced ictools, which is an AI tool embedded in MS Word for automatically producing JATS XML. He showed a demo for helping attendees understand practically. His colleague also introduced reference management tools, AIRefAssist.
The third presentation was made by Dr. Shilpi Mehda, Director of Cactus Communications, under the theme “Using AI Tools in Peer Review.’’ She introduced Paperpal, which includes AI tools provided by Editage for journal publishing. She showed how it works by showing demos.
