[Article] Research and Publication Ethics with Generative Artificial Intelligence-assisted Tools

Two Nobel Prizes in 2024 highlighted the growing influence of AI, underscoring its expanding role in scientific research and academic publishing. While AI enhances productivity, facilitates data analysis, and supports researchers, it also introduces serious ethical concerns such as quality issues, plagiarism, authorship ambiguity, automation bias, and transparency challenges. Clear disclosure of AI use by authors, reviewers, and editors is essential, along with strong policies to safeguard integrity, confidentiality, and accountability. Many journals now restrict AI-assisted peer review due to risks of confidentiality breaches and misuse. In sum, AI offers great promise for improving scholarly communication, but responsible governance and robust ethical guidelines are crucial for its safe and equitable adoption.
