The 2nd Asian Sscience Editors’ Conference & Workshop 2015

The 2nd Asian Science Editors′ Conference & Workshop 2015 on the theme “How to add local scientific journals to international databases” was held from August 20 to 22 at Hanoi University of Science and Technology in Vietnam. The objective of the conference and workshop was to improve the quality of scientific writing and editing, and publishing scientific publications according to international standards. It aimed to help scientists, educators, and researchers to increase their knowledge of scientific writing, and review and manage the quality of scientific journals and scientific publications intended for a global reach.

The conference was organized by the Mechanical Engineering Society, Hanoi University of Technology, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, in collaboration with the Council of Asian Science Editors (CASE). The event attracted over 250 participants from various universities, research and training institutions, scientific publishers, journals, and research and training units associated with scientific journals.

In the first workshop, the facilitators conducted four sessions focusing on training on JATS XML, peer review, and publication ethics. In the second workshop, the editors, scientists, and researchers had the opportunity to meet international and national experts and have discussions on how to improve the quality of writing for international journals, as well as scientific journals in Vietnam with international standards.

The 2nd Asian Science Editors′ Conference & Workshop 2015 was sponsored by the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST), Elsevier, Editage Korea (Cactus Group), Korean Council of Science Editors (KCSE), and Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI). The 3rd Asian Science Editors′ Conference & Workshop will be held from July 20 to 22, 2016 in Seoul, Korea.

 

2. Socialization of CASE in Indonesia

In order to disseminate the establishment of CASE in Indonesia, several socializations have been conducted in the national and local science journal editors meetings. At the national level, socialization was carried out at the national science journal editors meeting held by Directorate General of Higher Education, Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture on 27-28 August 2014. The meeting was attended by 30 journal chief editors from Indonesian universities, whereas at the university level the socialization of CASE was done at Bogor Agricultural University (BAU) during the BAU journal editors meeting and pra-establishment of BAU Association of Science Editors on 14 September 2014 and 9 December 2014. The result of the socialization is that some journal editors enrolled as members of CASE.

Prof. Jong K. Ha, President of CASE, explained some points related to the inclusion of journals in international databases. He introduced KCSE and CASE to the audience and spoke about the activities conducted in Vietnam, including the 2nd Asian Science Editors Conference in August 2015, and the creation of the Vietnamese Council of Science Editors.

The Vietnamese delegates showed a keen interest in the activities and expressed the desire to be a part of future collaborations. Both parties agreed to promote future cooperation including the participation of Vietnamese delegates in the 3rd Asian Science Editors Conference, which is to be held in July 2016 in Seoul.
