[News] Airlangga University Strengthens Its Sustainable Journal Ecosystem

The Institute for Journal Development, Publication, and Intellectual Property Rights (LPJPHKI) at Airlangga University (UNAIR) continues to solidify its role as a driving force behind Indonesia’s advancement in academic publishing and intellectual property. Through a series of innovative initiatives, LPJPHKI is committed to enhancing academic independence, expanding global competitiveness, and fostering a professional, transparent, adaptive, and ethical research culture.

This commitment is realized through the creation of a sustainable journal management ecosystem. One of LPJPHKI’s key focuses is improving the capacity, competence, and professionalism of journal editors within UNAIR. These efforts are expected to elevate UNAIR’s journals to the same standards as internationally recognized publications.

As a symbol of renewed vision, LPJPHKI introduced the tagline “See what’s next: Endless exploration of perspectives in journal management, publication, and intellectual property.” The tagline reflects a belief that knowledge should never remain static but should continually evolve—challenging us to rethink how we understand, write, and share science. With this spirit, LPJPHKI invites the entire academic community not only to produce scholarly work but also to explore new ways of valuing and disseminating knowledge so that its benefits can reach wider society.

Since 2020, UNAIR has taken a series of strategic measures to enhance the quality and reputation of its journals on the global stage. Today, the university manages 108 active journals with a range of national and international recognitions, including:

  • 9 journals indexed in the Asian Citation Index (ACI)
  • 1 journal listed in the Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC)
  • 78 journals registered in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)
  • 1 journal indexed in the Web of Science Clarivate Analytics Emerging Source Citation Index (ESCI)
  • 20 journals indexed in Scopus

Under the leadership of Prof. Muhammad Miftahussurur, Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Community Development, and Prof. Ferry Efendi, Chair of LPJPHKI, UNAIR has strengthened its strategic direction toward becoming a world-class research university. Their leadership has emphasized the importance of achieving self-sufficiency in journal management as a new model for academic excellence.

Through these initiatives, LPJPHKI reaffirms its position at the forefront of scientific and innovation development in Indonesia—empowering journal editors to become the engines of scholarly advancement and the guardians of research integrity.
