[Article] Subject Area Mapping of Indonesian Journals from GARUDA (Garba Rujukan Digital) and SINTA (Science Technology Index) Databases: A Descriptive Study

This study analyzes over 26,000 Indonesian journals in GARUDA and more than 13,000 accredited journals in SINTA to map their subject area distribution. GARUDA journals showed broader subject coverage than SINTA, with Indonesian journals most commonly focused on education, social sciences, and economics. Multisubject journals frequently combined areas such as science–engineering and education–social sciences. Higher education institutions, especially Universitas Negeri Semarang, were identified as the leading publishers across most subjects. The findings highlight the diversity and structure of Indonesia’s journal landscape and provide a foundation for future studies on journal impact and interdisciplinary research.
