On May 30th, the first CASE Workshop was held online with the theme of “Editing and Publishing Scholarly Journals in Asia.” The webinar was chaired by Mr. Itaru Saito, External Affairs Committee Chair of CASE, and featured two sessions and a Q&A. Over 140 attendees participated.
The first session was given by Dr. Paul Kratoska, Managing Director of Ampersand Blue Editorial Services, under the theme “Academic Publishing.” The sub-topics of the first session include 1) Academic Publishing Models, 2) The Monetization of Knowledge, 3) International Publications from Asia, and 4) Academic Publishing in Asia.
The second session was also given by Dr. Paul Kratoska, under the theme “Editing Journals.” The sub-topics of the second session include the roles and responsibilities of editors, and the demands of authors, readers, and sponsors on journals.
According to the responses to the questionnaire after the workshop, attendees were satisfied with the quality (80.3%) and management (74.2%) of the workshop. They considered the workshop informative and helpful. They want to hear about 1) how to include a journal in index databases (68.2%), 2) manuscript editing (63.6%), 3) publication ethics (62.1%), 4) access to research data (48.5%), and 5) others, such as AI and JATS XML.
