Council of Asian Science Editors

Greetings from the former president

Dear Members,

Over the past two years, there have been many difficulties in the operation of the academic society during a time in which it has been impossible to predict COVID-19. Nevertheless, to fulfill its responsibilities and obligations, the Council of Asian Science Editors (CASE) office was able to publish newsletters and Science Editing and safely conduct the 7th Asian Science Editors’ Conference and Workshop 2022 as well as general and executive board (EB) meetings. I believe that this result is due to the constant interest and support of many members, the former presidents, and the EB members.

Founded in 2014, CASE has grown into a large academic society with more than 500 members in about 20 countries. Today we are urged to adapt to the constant and rapid changes in the research environment, regarding sectors such as artificial intelligence, OPEN science, big data, and technological development. CASE offers the opportunity to keep up with the trends in the rapidly changing environment of scientific publishing. I am confident that CASE will continue to lead the academic development of Asian countries in the field of academic journals.

If CASE’s activities over the past eight years represented a cornerstone period, I believe it has now entered a period of growth. I have high expectations for President Basil D’Souza’s and Secretary-General Dr. Seo TS’s handling of CASE activities. As of Aug. 2022, Mr. Basil has been serving as the new president. Please give a lot of support and encouragement to the president, secretary-general, and EB members who are starting their new terms.

In closing, I would like to express my deep appreciation to the colleagues whom I worked with during my term: Secretary-General Yoon Chul-hee, EB members, and conference sponsors (Korean Council of Science Editors, Naver, Editage, Elsevier, and Animal Bioscience) for supporting CASE. I wish all of you the best.

Hyungsun Kim
President (2020-2022)
