Address by CASE President

President of CASE, R. Subramaniam
Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

A new year brings forth new opportunities for growth as well as new challenges to address. Since its inception in 2014, the Council of Asian Science Editors (CASE) has been playing an important role in promoting greater awareness of the need for raising standards of national journals in the sciences in Asia through greater stakeholder involvement in the entire publishing ecosystem. To this extent, CASE has been organizing academic conferences, conducting workshops, publishing the journal Science Editing, and fostering the establishment of national associations of science editors in countries in the Asian region. It is gratifying to note the international participation of delegates and stakeholders in the conferences and workshops that CASE has been organizing as well as the regional and topical diversity of the papers published in Science Editing over the years. The establishment and growth of national associations of science editors in the Asian region have also been gratifying.

With the onset of 2020, there are tremendous opportunities for the growth of academic journals in the sciences in Asian countries in the new decade as well as more opportunities for fostering greater synergy among stakeholders in the scholarly publishing ecosystem. It is imperative for the momentum in these pursuits to increase further.

CASE has been fortunate to have a council, which is dedicated to the pursuit of its mission objectives. I wish to express my gratitude and appreciation to the council for their partnership in this journey.
