Global issues in scholarly publishing : Focused on predatory publishing

On 27 August 2018 an issue report dealing with the ethics of researchers participating in fake conferences was published by Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information. The report suggested (1) enhancement of the rules and regulations on research ethics and management, (2) provision of legal protections of researchers from predatory publishers, (3) development of AI based system for filtering scams. It emphasized the close cooperation between stake holders in scholarly communications and industries as its conclusion. The report has received tremendous attention in S. Korea since its publication.
